The R 100 GS definitely belongs in the top ranks of performance bikes and with an unloaded weight of only 210kg it’s a snappy machine that handles excellently on the bends as much as on the straights.
The R 100’s double piston engine is air-cooled to prevent overheating and is renowned for the powerful punch it packs. Initially available as a 26-liter, and later as a 24-, the engine pushed out 60 horsepower making this a durable bike both for the race track and for off-road conditions. At its introduction in 1987, this was the first bike to feature a double-joint, rear wheel swinging arm known as the BMW Paralever. The R 100 GS ceased production in 1995 and its in lifetime became a top-seller for BMW; around 17,000 units were sold in Germany alone with the figure reaching 34,000 worldwide.
