Heavy bike
A heavy bike will make you have to come up with more power, so you're right there
as long as you have a normal bike to ride around on, there's nothing wrong with having a specialty bike for a particular kind of training
the only down side I ever saw to the "heavy bike" theory was my own dad. He reasoned that a
heavy (and therefore cheaper) bike would give him more of a workout, but in the end he just rode it less because it was basically an unpleasant experience to do a lot of hours on that thing
